So a pop-up restaurant called Powamekka is opening to commemorate him on the 20th Anniversary of his passing. Tupac Shakur had a vision for this restaurant and now it’s coming to life for 1 day!
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of Shakur’s passing, a Fresno, California burger joint will bring his “vision to life” for one night.
A Tupac-themed pop-up restaurant named “POWAMEKKA” will serving dishes envisioned by the late rapper will open September 13th at 7 p.m. at the Fulton Mall in Fresno, California to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Tupac’s passing.
The name “Powamekka” derives from the words “power” and “mecca,” and in recovered documents that were on exhibition last year, the rapper described it as “a passionate paradise 4 people with power 2 play and parlay.”
Before his passing, Tupac sketched ideas for a cookbook and restaurant based on his own recipes, as well as contributions from other musicians. One sheet, on display at the Grammy Museum, displays his ideas for the Powamekka Cafe: a logo that incorporates an ankh symbol, branding slogans and drawings of bathroom doors labeled “Divaz” and “Playaz.”
The California Love burger is on the menu, as well as Hennessy Apple Butter chicken wings, a Mac-and-Cheese Burger and Thug Passion cake pops, according to reports. California Love and Hennessy are both Tupac song titles, and Thug Passion takes a clever play on the classic track “Thug Mansion.”
The opening night festivities for the Powamekka Cafe will include a Tupac-themed art show and local musicians performing their favorite Pac tracks.
Take 3 Burgers is teaming with a foodie named Sam Hansen to create Powamekka Cafe, which will include some of Tupac’s vision into their existing Fulton Mall pop-up restaurant. They created a logo based off Tupac’s ideas, which now exist on a piece of paper in the Grammy Museum.
