How to Meditate with the Bible
Meditate on This Psalm
This mediation is from Week 1 of 31 Days of GOD Flow. This week is one of the most important weeks of this entire 31 days.
MEDITATION OVERVIEW
🍃 What is meditation?
Meditation is defined as, the act of giving your attention to only one thing, either as a religious activity or as a way of becoming calm and relaxed.
🍃 What does the Bible say about meditation?
There are several Bible verses that speak about meditating on the Word of God. Joshua 1:8 says, "This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success."
🍃 Why is meditation important for a child of God?
Not only is the Word of Yah composed of commandments that help us live a pure and fulfilled life, but it's also filled with many fruitful blessings and promises. However, in order to activate the promises and blessings of the Most High, the soil of our mind must be fertile.
It's impossible to bear good fruit on barren land (soil). Romans 2:12 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
One powerful way to renew the mind is with meditation. Meditation is a scientifically proven way to restructure and create new neurological pathways in the brain. It's a practice that allows old, oppressive thoughts and beliefs to be released and replaced with newer, more fruitful thoughts and beliefs.
In other words, meditation allows us to empty our mind from the weeds that the enemy has sown, and in our case, replace those weeds with the Word of God.
🌳 DAY 1 ACTIVITY - VISUALIZATION MEDITATION
**Choose a quiet place where you can meditate in solitude. Always pray and then invite the Holy Spirit (Ruach HaKodesh) into your meditation.
1) Read Psalms chapter 1 in the Bible.
- Take your time as you read! Even if you've read this scripture several times, or know it by heart even, take your time and read it line by line.
- Read it multiple times if you feel led to.
- Read it out aloud or in your mind.
2) Get in a comfortable position in a quiet, (dark or dimly lit) area and set your timer to 5, 10 or 15 minutes (after you're fully focused and engaged on Psalms 1).
3) Start your timer, close your eyes and slowly inhale and exhale (for at least 4 complete breaths),
4) Now, meditate on Psalms chapter 1 in the Bible.
- For the remainder of this meditation, (as you continue inhale and exhale), visualize yourself as a tree planted by the streams of water, as described in Psalms chapter 1.
- Let your visualization flow. Take your time to add visuals and visceral details as you continue to meditate.
- For example, visualize roots growing out of your feet burying themselves deep into the earth . Visualize the leaves of your tree flourishing, growing abundantly and dancing in the wind . Feel the water sweep past your feet and ankles as it replenishes you (who are visually planted like a tree).
5) After your meditation is complete, take note of anything the God has put on your heart, or that the Holy Spirit reveals to you. Also, record or draw anything God shows you during your prayer/meditation time.
6) End in prayer and thanksgiving.
Have you ever meditated on scripture before in this way? If so, how has it helped you or improved your relationship with The Most High?
